What is Quotabelle?
Quotabelle is a personal inspiration gallery.
We’re reimagining how we discover women & girls who challenge, encourage and entertain us.
At the heart of our business is a desire to connect people + ideas in ways that make a difference with our lives.
And, to have a bit of fun along the way.
Why women & girls?
The voices of females are being discovered more than ever. Yet, it still remains surprisingly difficult to find relevant, memorable quotes by women & girls.
That’s not because women haven’t had meaningful things to say or write. But, history has done a far better job of capturing and cataloguing quotes by men.
Our research suggests that it’s not a matter of demand.
So, we’re fixing the quote supply problem.
In doing so, we’re introducing the world to more ideas and stories of unforgettable | remarkable | notable women & girls.
What makes Quotabelle different?
Our focusBesides being dedicated exclusively to quotes and stories of women & girls, we’re expanding beyond the typical handful of established authors. We draw upon the wisdom of females who have made and are making an impact across a variety of fields and sectors ~ in science + tech | business + nonprofits | politics + advocacy | arts, media + more.
Responsible sourcingYou would not believe how many of the best-known quotes are minced, misattributed or untraceable hearsay. All the quotes we feature are tapped from a verifiable original or cited in an authoritative source that you, too, can access.
Context, context, contextQuotabelle isn’t just about supplying her quotes, but also her story because the 2 go hand-in-hand. We are always striving to help you put her words in context. And, we add rich media assets to make your basic quote search into an inspiring trek with your own unique itinerary.
Our curatorial eyeNot just any sourced quote or content makes its way onto the Quotabelle site. We’re picky. We hand-select words and images so you see what holds our collective interest + still speaks beautifully to today.
CommunityOur aim is to foster a network of quote-lovers + quote-makers, both on- and off-line.

Why “quoteur”? What do you mean?
Women & girls featured on Quotabelle are referred to as “quoteurs” because neither “author” nor “speaker” quite fit the bill.
Whether their words are written, typed or spoken, highly polished or off-the-cuff, all of these women are makers of memorable lines.
So, in the vein of auteur, connoisseur, provocateur, raconteur and entrepreneur, we introduced the world to the word quoteur.
How do you choose featured quoteurs and quotes to include?
Smart, fun-loving, everyday people got us started.
It wasn’t hard for us to identify real women & girls to profile…well-known females and remarkable ones who are not widely known (yet).
What was hard was to limit our efforts, so we could do each quoteur justice.
We strive to maintain a healthy balance of headliners and up-and-comers in our featured profiles, as well as a range of backgrounds + beliefs, experiences + expertise. Because we believe more role models will emerge when her ideas and her stories go from being invisible to visible.
Let us know who you think should be added to our list.
What's up with how you describe, title and cite the sources of quotes and media?
Our writing team has honed its own signature style that doesn't match up with any established manuals ~ AP, MLA, Chicago or otherwise. However, the Quotabelle style guide is driven by the same core principles as other systems: rigor, ethics, consistency + pithiness.
The format we landed upon for titling quotes fits our approach and aesthetic. It keeps the quoteur in the foreground as author while also establishing the context of her words. A quote title gives you the source type, names the exact physical or media venue and provides the date for when the lines were written, spoken or recorded.
On each quote’s page, we conscientiously provide a “source it!” link in the upper left-hand corner. Click through to arrive at the quote’s original context. By using our link, you can access the details we leave out {for the sake of clarity + brevity} in our citation method ~ for instance, locations, producers, publishers and additional authors.
If you’re using a quote for professional or academic work, don’t forget to give proper credit where credit’s due. We recommend this excellent online reference created by Purdue’s Online Writing Lab for figuring out the appropriate style and format for citing sources ~ including our site!
Do you think Quotabelle is appropriate for educational use?
Very much so. The platform has the potential to be an excellent teaching resource for students + educators who are looking for ways to make learning more fun, modern + interactive without skimping on substance.
The content can sometimes be provocative but should be age appropriate for children 12 + up.
We have experienced teachers on our staff, so keep an eye out for forthcoming developments directed specifically towards education ~ including suggested student activities, lesson plans and other creative ways for young learners to engage in discovering + sharing her ideas + stories.
How do I find quotes?
The site is searchable + surfable in a variety of ways.
On the home page, use the search bar at the bottom to find quotes from our archive via tag categories: quoteur, era, community, topic or occasion. Click on the term you’d like to search by, and see if the subject you’re looking for is covered in our archive {which is expanding each + every day}.
- quoteur ~ see if a particular woman or girl is featured on the site
- era ~ search by historical period
- community ~ find quotes connected with a particular locale, identity or social grouping
- topic ~ explore the archive according to specific subject matter
- occasion ~ seek out the right words to match important life events
A great way to delve into her stories + quotes, is to go to our “discover” page, which gives you an engine for exploring the lives + lines of our most recently profiled quoteurs via our very own “She themes.” Click on a verb that intrigues you, and exemplary women & girls will pop up. Quoteurs could appear under any one of the She themes, just as we know there are many dimensions to our lives. We’re giving you a themed starting point to begin your journey.
Besides being grouped under our general themes, our quoteurs are also arranged historically: the “unforgettable” category covers historical figures born pre-1900, “remarkable” refers to those who rose to quotability in the 20th century and “notable” marks the extraordinary voices of women & girls emerging in the 21st century.

Is everything hot-linked?
Our platform is brand-spanking new and still under development. We hope you’ll find that the site’s already a remarkable search + discovery engine.
But, we’re a startup with plenty of room to grow.
As we evolve Quotabelle, we will beef up the hyper-connectivity of the site with smartly-linked tags and ways to move easily among pages.
Feel free to let us know how else you’d like to navigate the network by sending a comment to us.
Can I help fix the kinks?
We launched the .5 version of the Quotabelle platform simply because we were so eager to share her stories + quotes! And, so we could learn from registered members and those guests who drop by for a quick visit.
Quotabelle’s content and design are dynamic…so they are constantly evolving. We’d love to hear from you as we continue to make Quotabelle relevant, reliable and meaningful.
Accuracy matters to us. A lot. So, please pass along any corrections.
And, in the spirit of making things better, do tell us about what’s working + what’s not, or what to add + what to trim.
You can share your edits + feedback by sending a comment to us. We appreciate your input!
Does the site make money?
We’re striving to keep the site ad-free for your viewing pleasure. {During our own efforts to discover quotes, we encountered many an ad that was ill-placed. Case in point, our summertime search for quotes about ice cream served up gastrointestinal remedies on the side.}
But we can’t keep up the good work without ways to pay for resources ~ particularly talent and technology ~ that enable us to do things right.
As we get started, there are 2 main sources of revenue ~
- the marketplace, where we feature quality, quote-adorned products, including our signature Quotabelle line. These items make great gifts…for friends + relatives | colleagues + coworkers | employees + bosses | clients + customers | your family + yourself.
- affiliate relationships with companies whose products we love + recommend. First up…we participate in the Amazon Associates program.
What does the raspberry shopping bag mean?
There is a place on each of our quoteur profiles for curated e-commerce that highlights some of the best associated products. Not all “effects” featured on quoteur pages are purchasable. The “shopping bag” icon indicates those products that are available from a company with whom we have an affiliate relationship. Buying them or related products helps support the work we’re doing.
Every time you purchase an item through one of our links, it contributes towards us expanding the site + supporting the emerging talent on our team of female writers. It’s a win-win since you can get top-notch products you’ll love while helping to employ, skill + connect women from across many different life stages and career phases.
