The Academy of Achievement interviewed Maya {an Academy member since 1990} on January 22, 1997 in High Point, North Carolina. This is classic quote is from the poet's response to the question, "How old were you when you finally realized your talents?" She was 65 at the time, and thought she probably hadn't "scratched the surface" yet.
