Bessie believed that true social progress would be made in the skies. She first started to pay attention to aviation while working at a nail salon ~ where she hear many a flying story from World War 1 pilots. Hoping to spur equality for African Americans, she pledged her life to learning + representing the world of aviation.

Foreseeing the importance + success of aviation, Bessie was able to find her calling while fighting for equal rights. She believed that giving African Americans the education + training in aviation would encourage the progress of civil rights.
