Ruth's 35 page dissent in the Hobby Lobby case, which held that no employer should be able to force their religious beliefs on an employee, has been called "scathing," among other things. Hobby Lobby had asserted that they did not have to include coverage of birth control in their employee medical coverage because it was against their religious beliefs. The eventual decision came 5-4 in favor of the company. Ruth argued for the minority that denying women coverage for birth control was denying them their right to control their bodies.
