Gertrude's mini manifesto on writing was published in 1926 as part of an series put out by the press founded + run by British author Virginia Woolf and her husband Leonard.
Obscure for most of her career, when Gertrude went to the US for a triumphant lecture tour ~ following the surprise success of her novelistic memoir The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas ~ she was greeted by a neon sign in Times Square that said "Gertrude has arrived." Today, an unassuming bronze statue of the poet watches over New York City's Bryant Square, testifying to her influence on the next gen of artists.
