This scholarly publication contains a reprint of Audre's landmark essay, "The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action." The piece was originally delivered as a speech at the 1977 Modern Language Association conference in Chicago.
This striking portrait of Audre is seen in a preview of Jennifer Abod's documentary "The Edge of Each Others Battles: The Vision of Audre Lorde," which is distributed by the feminist media organization Women Make Movies. Audre's known for advocating for and vocalizing what's important. Later in life she took the name, Gambda Adisa, which means “Warrior: She Who Makes Her Meaning Known.”
