Lady Bird was known for her advocacy in beautifying the nation with wildflowers. In 1982, Lady Bird + actor Helen Hayes founded the National Wildflower Research Center located west of Austin, Texas. The nonprofit's objective was to reintroduce endangered native plant species back into planned landscapes, with the added benefit of beautifying highways + other public areas.
